How Can You Tell When You Need a Brake Repair?Faulty brakes can contribute to motor accidents, and that’s why you should always obtain a prompt brake repair. Learn how to identify the signs that your brakes need to be repaired so that you can remain safe on the road.

1. A Burning Odor

If you smell a burning odor, then your brakes may be in trouble. Your brakes are probably overheating due to excessive use. This usually isn’t anything too serious, but it can cause a few problems occasionally. You should get your brakes checked out as soon as you can. Before you head to a dealership, though, you need to pull over and stop the car. Wait for your vehicle to cool completely before you start your vehicle back up. Once you start the car and the burning smell is gone, then you can carefully make your way to the dealer.

2. Unusual Noises

Your vehicle making any strange noises is always a cause for alarm. Unusual noises can indicate a whole range of issues. There are two noises you’ll hear that can indicate a fault with your brakes:

• A high-pitched, metallic shrieking or grinding

• Ticking sounds

If you hear either of those noises coming from your vehicle, then get to the dealership as soon as you can. Both can indicate brake trouble, but the latter sound can be a sign of engine issues, too.

3. Your Brakes Feel Wrong

If you notice that your brakes suddenly feel different, then it’s probably a sign that something is wrong. Squishy or spongy-feeling brakes are the most common sensation-based issue that you’ll find. It’ll feel like you’re stepping on something soft, and there’ll be no real resistance there.

With this squishy-sensation issue, your brakes may also become less responsive. You’ll have to exert more force than usual to get your brakes to work. When this happens, get to a dealership straight away, and consider getting someone to tow you there so you don’t have to drive. Your brakes could stop working at any time, and that can cause a fatal accident. Don’t take risks when it comes to brake trouble. Your safety should always come first.

Where Should You Get Your Brakes Repaired?

If you notice any of the signs above, then you should head to a dealership straight away. Dealerships have technicians who specialize in your car. They’ll be able to provide high-quality care, and they’re often more thorough than a regular mechanic. Regular mechanics rely on a high volume of work to make their income. However, dealerships offer lots of services, and they sell cars, too. Dealerships have guaranteed income, and that allows the technicians to spend more time providing thorough high-quality care.
